Project: Creation of a Master Plan to guide the future development of the Town of Stowe’s most used municipal park
Description: Broadreach Planning & Design completed the development of a master plan for Memorial Park, the primary village park in the Town of Stowe. The project was undertaken with input from a Project Steering Committee as well as an extensive set of public work sessions.
The Town wanted to develop the Memorial Park Master Plan so that it had a clear picture of how the park should move into the future and what changes would be most important. Among the issues that needed to be addressed were:
The potential reuse of the old Congregational Church, relocated to the park over 20 years ago;
The upgrading or replacement of Jackson Arena, the Town’s covered ice skating arena that is at the end of its functional life;
Better pedestrian and vehicular circulation and separation,
The upgrading and expansion or reduction of the existing ball fields,
Expansion of facilities into the rear 40 acres;
The addition of a skate board park, and
The upgrading or replacement of the existing recreation center.
The final Master Plan addressed each of these issues as well as other local issues and was readily endorsed by the Project Steering Committee and the Town’s Selectboard.
